Last week TAMACC joined the American Business Immigration Coalition (ABIC) in Washington, DC for 3 days of working Capitol Hill advocating for DACA recipients, Dreamers, and immigrant farmworkers.
Over 60 ABIC members flew in from Texas, Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, Indiana, Wisconsin, Idaho, Arizona, Utah, Colorado, Maine, New York, California, Illinois, and Mississippi. There was a wide variety of business leaders, corporate representatives, university presidents, dairy farmers, and growers.
Some of the ABIC members testified in the Judiciary Committee in support of legalizing their workers, Latino entrepreneurs, Dreamers from Don’s Dream.us program, and farmworkers.
During the 3-day period, ABIC members met with Cedric Richmond, Senior Advisor to the President, the White House Office of Public Engagement; the Director of the White House Office of Intergovernmental Affairs Julie Rodriguez, granddaughter of Cesar Chavez; and Ester Olavarria, Deputy Director of the Domestic Policy Council for Immigration.
In-person meetings included Senators Schumer, Durbin, Cornyn, Collins, Manchin, Romney, Young, T. Scott, and a meeting with McConnell’s chief of staff. With the House of Representatives, meetings were held with Speaker Pelosi, Representatives Cuellar, Clyburn, Kelly, R. Davis, Salazar, Diaz-Balart, and V. Gonzalez. There were also meetings with 40 additional Senators and Representatives or their senior staffers.
The ABIC press conference featured Senators Schumer, Durbin, Catholic Cardinal Wilton Gregory, and Republican Strategist Ana Navarro.
