TAMACC Champions Expanded Work Authorization at “Here to Work” Summit in Washington, D.C.

TAMACC is taking the lead by assembling a Texas delegation of influential business and community leaders to participate in the “Here to Work” Summit in Washington, D.C. This summit, scheduled for November 13 and 14, represents a crucial milestone in the ongoing nationwide campaign to promote expanded work authorization opportunities. It seeks to address the acute workforce shortages facing the United States while ensuring stability for immigrant workers and their employers.

Amidst the current congressional deadlock over immigration reform, a diverse coalition comprising bipartisan governors, employers, Members of Congress, and community leaders is urging President Biden to utilize his administrative authority to broaden work authorization options. This action is deemed essential to replenish the labor force, which has been impacted by a two-year immigration pause, and to fill substantial job vacancies across sectors such as manufacturing, retail trade, financial services, professional and business services, and leisure and hospitality.

Economists have determined that nearly half of the current labor force deficit can be attributed to the immigration hiatus. According to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, key sectors are grappling with job vacancies ranging from 20 to 60 percent. In light of the congressional impasse, leaders from various sectors are calling on President Biden to employ existing legal provisions to empower immigrants and address these significant challenges.

The “Here to Work” Summit will convene business and community leaders to emphasize the urgency of taking action to sustain the American workforce and provide immigrant workers and their employers with the stability they rightly deserve. While the agenda is still being developed, participants can look forward to:

Engaging with Members of Congress and White House officials.

Attending expert panels addressing the necessity of workforce expansion.

Networking with industry and community leaders who share a common interest in advancing practical immigration solutions.
