Day One: Mastering the Media

The spotlight was on as the cohort dove into a full day of media training, designed by Dr. Judy Oskam, Professor and Director of Texas State’s School of Journalism and Mass Communication. With an all-star lineup of media pros, Class II learned what it takes to shine whenever the cameras roll.

Day Two: Taking Flight at the Commemorative Air Force

The second day lifted the class to new heights at the Cen-Tex Wing of the Commemorative Air Force in San Marcos. Stepping into the active WWII hangar was like stepping back in time. The class toured vintage aircraft, including WWII warbirds, before settling into the historic Officer’s Club for a day of learning.

Featured Presenters:

• Dr. Joshua J. Daspit, Associate Professor of Management and Sam Barshop Excellence Professor in Entrepreneurship at Texas State University, introduced the SCALEUP program and shared groundbreaking strategies to strengthen small and minority-owned businesses, with a focus on Latino entrepreneurs.
• Dr. Gloria P. Martinez-Ramos, Director of the Center for Diversity and Gender Studies, delivered an eye-opening presentation on the current challenges in higher education—including the impact of new anti-DEI measures—and emphasized the importance of creating inclusive learning environments.

From WWII history to future-focused leadership, the day perfectly blended inspiration with actionable insight—equipping Class II with new tools to lead, innovate, and make a difference.
